Before we learn how to play Live Roulette Online, here’s a very quick history lesson. Roulette was first devised in France in the 18^th Century and utilised a spinning wheel that was developed by the French Mathematician Blaise Pascal. The wheel was originally part of an experiment in his search for a perpetual motion machine.

The game has evolved from those times and there are now a few variants. Of these, European Roulette and American Roulette are the most popular.

The Difference between playing Live European Online Roulette and American Online Roulette.

Both types of roulette use the same table apart from one main difference. The European table has the numbers 1 – 36 and a single 0. However, the American table has the numbers 1-36 and two zeroes . This extra section gives the house an extra advantage, so if you are new to playing Online Roulette it’s advisable to start by playing Online European Roulette.

Online Live Roulette Rules of Play

The main area of the Roulette table is split into three main columns. These columns 12 numbers in each and these numbers run across the three columns from the number 1 through to 36. Therefore row 1 has the numbers 1,2 and 3 and row 2 has the numbers 4, 5 and 6 and so on, all the way through to row 13, which in turn has the numbers 34, 35 and 36.

Players place chips on the numbered areas on the Roulette table depending on where they think the ball will stop. If you wish you can place your chips onto more than one number.

Once all bets have been placed the ball will be spun in a spinning bowl which will eventually stop rotating.

If the ball stops and your chips are on the same number on the table then you win! Your winnings are 35 times your bet plus your original bet back. For example if you bet a single chip on the number 27 and you won, you would receive 36 chips back. All losing bets are removed from the table and then the next round begins.

This type of bet is known as the “Straight Up”, and it is the hardest one to win outright on, although it is the most profitable.

Other Types of Live Online Roulette Bets

There are plenty of other bets that you can place that although having reduced payouts, do increase your chance of winning at Roulette.

There are also sections on the table that allow you to place other bets – and depending on where you place your bets you can get multiple Online Roulette wins in any one game when you play. Note that you can place as many bets as you feel comfortable with in any game,

These extra areas are as follows;

A red box

Placing your Roulette Chips in this box means that you are betting that the outcome will be the ball landing on a red number. If this happens then you get paid out at evens. Therefore you get one chip back for each chip you bet.

A black box

Exactly the same as above, except that you are betting that the ball will land on a Black number. The Online Roulette payout is the same as above.

If you place your Roulette Chips on the wrong colour OR the ball lands on Zero you lose your bet. Zero is always a Green Number (and the only green number on an Online Roulette table).

Apart from the red and black boxes there are also the following Roulette betting options.

The “Even” box

As above, but this time you are betting to decide whether the ball will stop on an Even number or not. Again this pays out one chip for each chip you bet, plus your stake back on the winning bet. For the purposes of playing Online Roulette, the Zero is neither Even or Odd and so is a losing bet, unless the Online Casino is offering what is known as “La Partage Rules”.

The “Odd” box

This time you are betting on the outcome of the Roulette Wheel ball stopping on an Odd number. As above this Roulette bet pays out one chip for each winning chip that you have bet.

La Partage Rule in Online Roulette Betting

Some, but not all Online Roulette Games will offer you the option to play according to “La Partage” rules. Remember that Roulette originated in France (La Partage means “the share”). If your Online Roulette game offers this option then you should take it as it gives you as a player a slight advantage.

Under these rules and you are betting on Even, if the ball lands on the Zero, then you will receive half of your chips back. This is only if you are betting on Evens in the correct area. “La Partage” gives you an extra 1.3% chance of winning when betting on Evens.

Finally, two bets that you can make in Online Roulette that pay out at 1:1 are the Low/High bets.

Low bet.

You are betting that the ball will stop on the numbers between 1 – 18. If you win the bet then you get one chip back for each winning chip you wagered.

High bet.

This time you are betting that the ball will stop on the numbers between 19 – 36. Again this bet pays out one chip for each winning chip that you placed.

Again, Zero is a losing bet.

There are other bets that you can make when you play Live Online Roulette that will pay out higher odds. These are

• Betting on the First Column, Second Column or Third Column. At the end of each column of numbers is another box. Placing Roulette Chips into this box means that you are betting that the outcome of the wager is that the ball will land on one of the numbers in that column.
• Betting on the First Dozen, Second Dozen or Third Dozen. Running along the side of the Online Roulette table will be three boxes. These boxes are usually labelled “1-12”, 13-24” and “25-36”. Placing your chips in any of these boxes means that you are gambling that the outcome of the Roulette ball when it stops will be landing in one of these three number groupings.

These Online Roulette bets pay at 2:1 – so you get two chips back for every one winning chip you bet.

Live Online Roulette Bets with Higher Odds

The following Online Roulette bets are very popular as they pay out higher odds than the previously mentioned options. They also have a more realistic chance of you winning over a spread of numbers of your choice.

The Line Bet.

With this Roulette bet you are betting on six numbers (so in other words two lines of three numbers in each line). This bet will pay out 5 chips for every winning chip that you wager. To make this bet place your chips as in the picture below.

The Corner bet.

A personal favourite of mine, you place your chips on the intersection of four numbers. If any of those four numbers win you will receive 8 chips for each chip you wager in this way.

The Street Bet.

This roulette bet is similar to the Line Bet above, but this time you are only betting on three numbers. This wager will pay out at 11 chips for each winning chip you have. When placing a Street Bet, be careful to ensure that you place your chips correctly. You don’t want to place a Line Bet by accident!

The Split Bet.

With this bet you are only betting on two numbers. Place your chips on the line between the two numbers that you wish to bet on. If this is a winning wager then you will get 17 Chips for each winning chip that you have placed. You can bet on either the numbers to the left and right or above and below your chip.

The Difference between Playing Live Online European Roulette and American Roulette

The above rules and wagering or bet types are the same for both types of Online Roulette. However there is one major difference on an American Roulette table and wheel, which is the inclusion of a “00”. This gives the house an extra edge as there are now two positions on the wheel where all bets lose.
